Just like in humans, bathing pets in hard water can cause a dry, dull, and itchy coat and skin. The excess minerals in hard water prevent soap and shampoo from properly lathering. Rather than lifting dirt and oil away from your pet’s fur, the minerals in hard water can trap the soap in their coat, making it challenging to get the product fully rinsed out. At the end of the bath, your pet may have a stubborn film left behind on their skin and fur. The result can be dry and itchy skin, a noticeably dull and scratchy coat, and increased shedding.
